TAXATION

A tale of three brothers

I thought the video on progressive tax was interesting because the arguments were all ones that occur in society right now. I think that the video makes it seem as the brother with least money is rude and unfair while the richest brother is getting cheated which makes me wonder what view the person who made the video has. At the same time they could've said that the brother with the least money can't pay any or pay as much because he needs a higher percentage of his money to live off. This in my opinion would've been more realistic. Also while the video provides a good small scale example I think a larger scale would have been more beneficial to show how a progressive tax works. It also seems to me that they only used examples of just the lower and middle classes but not one of the really rich 1%.

Glad to know I'm not the only person who thought so!

I think that if we went to war today it would be very different because people would complain about paying higher taxes let alone buy war bonds. While then it was seen as very patriotic and something to be proud of.

I think it was probably a bit of both.

NON INTERVENTION

Re: Non-intervention as a Foreign Policy

He doesn't believe in remaining completely neutral to genocide he just believes there are other ways to solve the problems then always sending in troops. He believes that we can be more diplomatic about it and not intervene just because people are dying because our constitution doesn't give us power to do so. I agree that it is the world's problem but I do not believe the U.S. needs to send troops in to stop it unless the UN gives the green light.

Yeah I see what you are getting at. I think it definitely needs to be stopped I just think that there might be a better way to resolve the issue that wouldn't almost always involve the U.S. sending in troops or bombing the territory. Like you said sometimes you just can't reason with them due to their hatred and then that's where I believe the line should be drawn on whether or not we take action.

Okay, so how do you propose we should handle these situations? As we do now or do you have a better way?

ROLE OF THE US IN THE WORLD

Where did priests come from? I see what you're saying but I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "The political game is one aspect of the grand story called history." Also how are they pulling everyone else's strings? There job is to try and educate a mass amount of people on what they believe is right or wrong and it's up to the people to decide in what they believe. The politicians don't decide for them and that's what I'm getting from what you're saying.

Yeah, I would have to agree with you. If an international institution had that much power it would erase the need for countries. Wouldn't it?

That would be pretty cool to see and experience. I can see it happening at some point in the future but not with 7+ billion people. Maybe after a huge disaster that killed billions of people it would make a lot of sense.
